Dear Axl Rose…Shut Up!
Ok, for those of you who do not know that back story, here it is. After years of delays (13 to be exact), Guns N Roses announced in 2007, that their new album Chinese Democracy would hit shelves in late 2008. Dr. Pepper (who is owned by Snapple) decided to do a give-away. If the album actually hit stores in 2008, Dr. Pepper would give a free bottle to everyone in the US. Well, the album released on Nov. 23rd. Dr. Pepper said it would make good on the deal. The opted for what I think is the easiest way to do it. They were going to post a coupon on their website. Well we all know where this is going to lead. The server got overwhelmed and went down. But here is the best part. The lawyers for G N R are pissing an moaning because Dr. Pepper is running a “online scam”. You can read the whole article here (article). I am just going to point out a few things that I find ironic (or moronic as it may be).

Heroes — It’s time to stick a fork in it…
As much as it pains me to say this, I can’t continue to write weekly reviews or comments about Heroes anymore. After the incredibly entertaining first
season, I was giving season two some slack. Like many fans I was chalking up a lot of the issues to the writer’s strike. I see now that this was way off the mark. The issues facing this show run much deeper than the writer’s strike or any single writer.
A recent interview with the creator of Heroes yielded a fairly surprising admission.

Bolt: It’s Official. My Inner Child is Dead.
I can’t say I was excited for Bolt, Disney’s first big non-Pixar CGI animated film. I guess part of that comes from the fact that pretty much the only good thing coming from Disney in the form of animation has been from the Pixar side. Even Pixar’s worst is top-notch entertainment. But the Walt Disney corporation over the last decade or so seems to be almost as devoid of entertainment as anything George Lucas works on.

One Young Girl. One Powerful Lesson.
A few weeks ago, a 13-year-old girl was dragged into a stadium in Kismayo, Somalia and buried up to her neck in the dirt in front of 1000 spectators.
As she was buried, she was uttering “Don’t Kill Me, Don’t Kill me.”
Frightened and pleading for her life, after she was buried, over 50 men approached her and threw stones at her head until she was dead.
What was her crime?

Epic Games, Please Fix Gears of War 2!
I consider the original Gears of War to be hands down the best console shooter ever made. The campaign was tight and fun if not a bit too short, but the online play had me pushing the nightly online gaming addiction into hours I had never expected giving the game a long life span for me. Let me summarize my online experience with Gears of War 2 for the first 10 days:
“Remote Parties restarted the matchmaking process”
…5….4…3…2…1
“Remote Parties restarted the matchmaking process”
Rinse, repeat.

Quantum of Solace - Better Returns Than Other Investments in Bonds
Kind of like a comfort food, James Bond films are kind of like comfort films. After 45 years, there always seems to be a Bond film either in the theater or in the works and no matter how weak the films get they always manage to rake in enough money to keep the series running. It’s kind of like why people continue to force themselves to tune into The Simpsons on Sunday nights. Most of the time it may not be very good anymore, but it’s worthwhile when they get it right.

Heroes Writers Sacked - Show in Distress
I’m going to put in my review of Monday November 10th’s Heroes before it airs. Here it is:
Uneven. Unthoughtful. Unexciting. Borderline insulting to the intelligence, at least to the majority of fans still left that really enjoyed the first season.
The show started a slide in the first 60 minutes of season 2 and it’s just gotten worse.

World of Goo: A Blast of Fun for Wii
I’ve made two game purchases this weekend and I’m actually surprised by the one that’s gotten more hours. While I do plan to get to a Gears of War 2 review later on –especially after standing in the rain Thursday night for it— I want to reflect on an unexpected new game that I picked up for Wii called World of Goo, that’s actually been around for a while but finally makes its way to a console.

Reflections on the New President
Throughout the evening, the election coverage would occasionally cut back between Phoenix, Arizona and Grant Park in Chicago where crowds gathered for both candidates.
After the call was finally made late Tuesday night and McCain gave his concession speech the camera panned over his disappointed crowd. My wife made the comment “look at that crowd.” That was the extent of her comment, but I knew exactly what she was referring to. I responded ”It’s white as a sheet.”
