“Push” Movie Trailer - Didn’t this used to be a TV series called “Heroes”?

Over the last few weeks, you may have seen the trailer for the upcoming movie Push in front of other films at the cinema. It is also available online here or embedded below. My initial reaction was, “Hey, this looks cool, but I liked it better the first time I saw it, when it was called Heroes.”

Now, I’ll be the first to admit, Heroes is by no means an original concept, it borrows heavily from comic book source material, not the least of which is the popular X-Men series, but the list of similarities between Heroes and the trailer for Push is utterly ridiculous. Has Heroes creator Tim Kring seen this trailer? Let’s take a “short list” approach and look at some of the “incredible” plot coincidences.

NFC Super Bowl Pick; NFL Playoff Predictions; Printable Bracket!

There is order among the chaos that is the ending of the regular NFL season and that is the aligning of the playoff stars. First, I have to officially make my NFC Super Bowl pick since I was too much of a wuss to declare two weeks ago. Hey, what can I say? I am not a typical sports guy who is just going to blab out my first thought or reaction and say “Eat it, bitches.” Jake Delhomme and the Carolina Panthers will be matched up with the Indianapolis Colts in this years Super Bowl. There it is! Boom! Tough actin’ predictions!

The Spirit - What the hell is this thing?

If you saw the trailers for The Spirit and immediately drew the conclusion that the film was going to be the “spiritual” successor to Frank Miller’s 2005 gritty, artistic Sin City, be warned. I just saw Sin City for the first time this year, and I can say other than a few of the color tones The Spirit in no way shape or form resembles Miller’s earlier work. But comparisons to Sin City aren’t what ruined The Spirit for me.

Who Watches the Watchmen? Might be Nobody.

Despite Scuzzbuster’s earlier assertion that you shouldn’t off yourself before 2009, one of his reasons may no longer be enough to keep you breathing. According the The New York Times, it seems the judge in the Fox/Warner Bros. Watchmen rights case has made a preliminary ruling, prior to the scheduled January trial date, that Twentieth Century Fox does indeed own a copyright interest in the film.

Blu-ray and Netflix Streaming Video - So Easy a Caveman Could Do It (wait, is that copyrighted?)

I’ve come late to the Blu-ray party. Like most HD junkies I was waiting for the fight between HDDVD and Blu-ray to be won, which it was in convincing fashion in 2008. Now that I’ve arrived at the party with martini in hand, I’m happy to be here. What I’ve ended up with is an LG BD300 Blu-ray player with built in Netflix streaming capabilities. If you’ve dismissed Blu-ray or streaming video you owe it to yourself to investigate this. What’s sitting in my entertainment center now is proof positive that we’ve reached an age where even stupid people can be dangerous with technology.

Doctor Who - The Next Doctor…or not?

Christmas Day in the UK for the past few years has brought not only a joyous holiday celebration but joyous holiday television ratings in the form of geekish delight of the Doctor Who Christmas Special. As an in-joke, last year’s special had London evacuated on the holiday due to the mass panic of paranoia of further Christmas catastrophe. This year, the Doctor has decided to give the present day London a break and push the fright-fest back around 160 years to 1851. No break for London though as it gets some even more fierce destruction unleashed on the 19th century’s unwashed masses.

Doctor Who - On the brink of extinction?

On the eve of the 2008 Christmas Special and on the trail of the official announcement of lead actor David Tennant and Producer Russell T. Davies leaving the series is there a danger on the horizon for the BBC’s flagship show or is it just getting started? There’s always a risk for a program when it loses it’s brains and charisma at the same time. This puts a whole new spin on things as we get our first fresh Who in a while this week.

15 Free Windows Apps that I Heart

 1. 7zip - File Compression/Extraction - www.7zip.org

I have been using 7zip for quite a long time and with good reason. 7zip is a small program that sets up easily, quickly, and with no fuss. The shell integration is great for archiving/extracting files and it works very well. A program I have come accustomed to taking for granted, almost.

AFC Pro Bowl List / Snubs / Analysis

AFC - Offense

QB
Starter: Peyton Manning - Indianapolis
Backups: Brett Favre - New York (Jets), Jay Cutler - Denver

Snub 1:  Phillip Rivers - San Diego
What a perfect example of how the fans screw it up.  Phillip Rivers has the highest passer rating in the NFL (104), leads the AFC in yards per completion (8.3) and has stepped up the Chargers to contend for the division.  Favre, while having a solid season, hasn’t even been close.  Rivers is ridiculously deserving of this.

5 DVDs for non-Sci-Fi Geeks

Since the first article was so popular I thought I’d do a follow up before Christmas on what DVD’s to get for the “non-Sci-Fi Geek.”

1. Batman - Dark Knight - $17 for basic, $23 for SE, $26 for Blu-Ray, $50 for Limited Edition Blu-Ray
Was there really a question of what would go here?  The best movie of the year by 10 galaxies (needed some sci-fi reference) and it was for all the right reasons.  Action, drama, great effects, excellent acting, and things going boom!  What else do you need?
