5 DVD Gift Ideas for Sci-Fi Geeks
I was not going to do a “buy this” article this year and it may even be very very late but I thought I’d make a minimal list of some great gift ideas.
1. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and Star Wars Trilogy - $35/piece
At $35 a piece these are a pretty good buy. Anyone who is a real Star Wars fan is going to want all of the movies even if they don’t like them.

For the uber geek throw in the book set too at another $30

2. Star Trek the Complete Collection (Movies) - $45
One of the best buys for a DVD set I think I have ever seen. Star Trek 1 - Star Trek X is available all together for the measly price of $45. This is a whopping 20 disks of Star Trek.
Box sets of The Original Series, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager are all available at about $210 a piece.

3. Battlestar Galactica Seasons - $35/piece
There is Season 1, Season 2.0, Season 2.5, Season 3.0, and now Season 4.0 which also includes Razor. Any sci-fi nerd will be amongst the Gods with this set.
Uber geeks would be interested in the entire Original Series gift set for $55
4. Godzilla Ultimate Collection Pack - $65
With 7 movies of giant lizard mayhem this is a bargain. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE Godzilla? Monsterous charm right there.
Uber geeks could appreciate any of the Godzilla toys or memoribilla.
5. FireFly - $55
Honestly, most Sci-Fi fans probably have this but if they don’t it would be a great pick up! Although, it might be a bit torturous to fall in lvoe with something they can’t have again!
Uber geeks definitely need the Serenity movie to go with this. It was kind of a “farewell” to the beloved show.
Bonus - Stargate Complete Series - $99 — on sale now at www.amazon.com
I know some people that are crazy about this show but I cannot say I ever “got into it.” At $100 for the whole series it’s a really good buy.

We may have to have a serious talk if you’re advocating putting money in George Lucas’s pocket this year.

$35.00 a piece.
The orignal trilogy is $35.00 and the prequel trilogy is the “piece”

“Anyone who is a real Star Wars fan is going to want all of the movies even if they don’t like them. ”
Anyone who is a real Star Wars fan is already going to own them. These are the exact same editions already released, just with different packaging. No new extras, no new transfers, no new footage. Pass.

I’m still waiting for the “A New Hope” Alderaan Jimmy Smits reaction shot addition. Another one of those things that sounds too ludicrous to be true until you search the archive of endless insane George Lucas interviews.

Boooo! I’m not saying to buy them if you already have them and I don’t think some will have the prequel set. I think these just came out last month and I know I was waiting for the set to come out instead of purchasing individually.
I would imagine there will be a huge mega set thing with 8000000 disks and all the movies together that *might* be worth purchasing with extras in the future.

I was going to save it for a full blow post, but Zab is the best at expressing Lucas hate (a hate that comes from love…as we both feel, kinda like the feelings you might have toward your ex-wife after a messy divorce). However here it goes…
We have THE DISNEY STORE
We should have
THE LUCASFILM STORE
Basically, entire store devoted to every edition, every format of the Star Wars films ever released. I remember when I was young and we were BEGGING for them to finally release STAR WARS on VHS, now you can’t get through a month without an announcement of a new edition of the Holy Trilogy being released. There are SO MANY ways in which Lucas has fucked with the fans on this.
In any case, in the LUCASFILM STORE you can one of two things: You can go in and rebuy any or all of the Star Wars films in any one of various different formats…OR, for those that don’t have the room on their video shelves for any more of them there is a giant hole in the middle of the store that you can just go up to throw shitloads of money into.

I buy anything that has touched G.L.
I still have my Yoda Underoo’s.

I wasn’t saying don’t buy them. I just wanted to point out, for the folks that have already bought the discs previously, that there’s nothing new here besides the packaging. Think of it as a public service announcement.

George Lucas is an idea man. Just not a screenwriter unfortunately.
