Holy Frak, Galactica’s Back!

The 10 part Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy premiered today with part 1. One thing about Galactica, it’s easy to lose the taste once you get it too far behind you, but once the first minute or so graces the screen you can feel the love flowing back.

Part 1 is about 4 minutes long and tells us almost nothing except the “big reveal” that already leaked a couple of months ago. We get confirmation that Felix Gaeta has been living an alternative lifestyle under our noses for the past 5 years when his significant other smuggles him some morphine, obviously having some health consequences since the loss of his leg.

The Webisode starts 9 days after the discovery of Earth and then jumps backward three days to the 6th day after discovery. There’s really not enough content in this first webisode to drone on about. I wish that I had the first half of season 4 at hand to get refreshed. January is going to be killer with both Galactica returning for it’s last 10 episodes and Lost premiering it’s 5th and penultimate season all within a week—not mention there’s a Presidential Inauguration to boot all in the same time frame.

The most interesting question that this first webisode raises is that Tigh was back in uniform and seemed to still be fulfilling his standard duties aboard the ship, which I find slightly odd considering his true identity as a Cylon is now known. Even if Adama trusts him, can the crew? Granted, he won’t be the first openly Cylon part of the Galactica crew.

Casual fans may miss or dismiss the webisodes, but keep in mind that if they all are about 4 minutes long, the 10 episode web series turns out to be just a couple minutes shy of a full weekly episode of the series. Also, unlike the extremely weak Heroes web series earlier this year, this has the cast of the show and not a bunch of scale bit part actors providing filler. While the web series won’t be necessary to understand the series’ final stretch, it will certainly have content that will enhance and pertain to the full series.

For Galactica watchers that haven’t properly prepared the nerd and geek centers of their brain for the upcoming series home stretch, you can read my Galactica mid-season wrap here:

I will be watching this when I get home and it merely makes me fathom at the mouth. You’re right, there is some refreshing to do. I am going to have to go back and rewatch the shows. It has certianly been awhile.
