NFC Super Bowl Pick; NFL Playoff Predictions; Printable Bracket!

There is order among the chaos that is the ending of the regular NFL season and that is the aligning of the playoff stars. First, I have to officially make my NFC Super Bowl pick since I was too much of a wuss to declare two weeks ago. Hey, what can I say? I am not a typical sports guy who is just going to blab out my first thought or reaction and say “Eat it, bitches.” Jake Delhomme and the Carolina Panthers will be matched up with the Indianapolis Colts in this years Super Bowl. There it is! Boom! Tough actin’ predictions!

DeAngelo Williams has just gone on a crazy hot streak to finish out this season and the absolute best part is that the rest of the team has quietly been on fire too. Williams is the team leader in rushing at 1515 yards but Jonathan Stewart is having a very good season at 836 yards and they combine for 28 touchdowns and over 2300 yards rushing! The part that everyone is going to overlook is the Panthers passing game. Steve Smith is over 1400 yards this year but Muhsin Muhammad has been resurrected after being brought back from Chicago where “Receivers go to die.” Muhammad is only 80 yards short of 1000 and actually seems to be enjoying his #2 spot.

Don’t think for second it’s all in the numbers for these Panthers, however. The Panthers have a huge advantage having guys that played in “the Big Game” and great team leaders in Delhomme, Chris Gamble, and Jon Beason. Carolina can stifle their competition through the air or on the ground unlike all of their opponents and that is deadly in the playoffs.

Now for all of you who somehow missed it I will break down the playoffs quickly.

Falcons at Cardinals - Saturday, Jan 3rd at 4:30 PM EST on NBC
The Falcons will travel to Arizona to battle for a chance to play the Giants. I like the Falcons in this game with the Cardinals falling apart at the end of the season and the Falcons are able to rely on their rushing attack lead by first year starting sensation Turner the Burner. Not much of a home field advantage here for the Cardinals whose fans really don’t have much of history of wild support. Falcons 28 - Cardinals - 17

Colts at Chargers - Saturday, Jan 3rd at 8 PM EST on NBC
Sunny San Diego will be a great spot for the Colts to defeat the San Diego Chargers. I’m not predicting an easy win or a blowout of any kind but I don’t think the Chargers will be able to hang with the Colts through 4 quarters. Since it should be fairly warm in San Diego the home field advantage won’t be a huge factor in the game. Colts 31 - Chargers 27

Ravens at Dolphins - Sunday, Jan 4th at 1 PM EST on CBS
Pennington, Brown, and Ginn have the Dolphins riding the wave of confidence into this game but I really think the Ravens are going to just wash it all away. The Ravens already beat the Dolphins earlier this year by 14 and I think it’s going to be more of the same after Sunday. Ravens D will just over match the Dolphins O. Ravens 21 - Dolphins 13

Eagles at Vikings - Sunday, Jan 4th at 4:30 PM EST on Fox
Game of the week to me. Many will pick the Eagles and rightly so. The Eagles defense has been very good throughout most of the year and just embarrassed the heck out of the Cowboys. I think this may end up being the Eagles demise. Too many up and downs for the Eagles will end their season along with Adrian Peterson. Peterson can only be stopped by Death himself and even then I think Death might run and hide. Vikings 17 - Eagles 13

Thanks for the bracket. As an Indy fan (and one of little faith this year) I think their biggest hump will be the Chargers. Anything is possible if they can win in San Diego Saturday night. I do see the Ravens moving out of wild card weekend and beating the Steelers, but there’s hardly a complete team in either conference this year. With the Patriots destruction early this year and the Colts slow start, there just haven’t been any really good NFL stories at all. Parity.

I really think the Panthers and Colts are pretty much the stories this year. Both started off slow and both had a couple of guys to really thank for the turn around. Peyton Manning is easily the MVP in my opinon and if there is a better leader in football I just have no idea who it is.

The Panthers could have the strongest backfield in football with the emergence of DeAngelo Williams and a young future stud in Jonathan Stewart.
