Seven Pounds: Hold the Jellyfish, Please

Will Smith begins his Oscar Bid this year with Seven Pounds. Even though this is probably is one of the most thoughtful and underplayed performances of his career I think he may be doomed. Rosario Dawson and Will Smith are both excellent. I still can’t quite figure out though if this movie is any good.

Yes Man - Another Jim Carrey Fundraiser

Yes, Jim Carrey sleepwalks through another zany comedy. Are you ready for the wackiness? At the risk of making this review anti-climactic I’m going tell you right now that I did not really care for Yes Man. However, let me qualify that with a story that explains why you should never trust my professional judgment when it comes to Jim Carrey.

Just Buy It

I love downloadable content, think it’s a great idea. For just a few bucks, you can get additional levels and goodies for your games, extending their life and your enjoyment. Even better, you can snag some pretty cool, original games that often times are more fun than their more expensive disc-based counterparts. Or buy classic games you enjoyed (or missed) in your gaming youth and give them another go. What I don’t like is gambling, and that is far too often what buying DLC turns out to be.

NFC Pro Bowl Roster - Snubs / Analysis

Look, it’s simple, the fans just do not get it right and never will.  There is always going to be too many snubs with the online polls so lets just get to it…

Offense

QB
Starter: Kurt Warner - Arizona
Backups: Drew Brees - New Orleans, Eli Manning - New York (Giants)

Snub 1: Tony Romo - Dallas

Look, I know the Giants are on top of the world but Manning is not the reason. Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, and the defense gets the Giants to where they need to be. Tony Romo has been excellent this year leading the NFC in QB Rating (98.3), yards per completion (8.2), and is a 63% passer. Manning has a rating of 86.4, is completing 60%, and is only averaging 6.8 a completion. Eli isn’t having a bad year necessarily but Romo has been much better and more vital for his team.

Frost/Nixon - Ron Howard doesn’t let the American people down

Director Ron Howard, who has brought such a diverse range of entertainment to the large and small screens for over 40 years now tackles one of the most significant news events of the 1970s. You may not see the dramatic possibilities in a movie about a series of 30 year old news interviews. But the interviews themselves are simply a means to end in a film that’s really about a battle between two men with a lot to lose. All crafted with love by little Opie Cunningham (sorry, Mr. Howard, the rest of this review should more than make it up to you).

NFL Network Secretly Hosted by Muppets!

As I sat and watched the NFL Network this past Sunday it was like I was seeing things for the very first time. I was in awe of who was actually hosting the shows. The broadcasters are not always the most interesting bunch but I suddenly realized they were vastly more intriguing than any other sports network. They were all Muppets!!! I have proof…

Deion Sanders –> Dr. Teeth
This one is plainly obvious. “Neon Deion” did not just slowly disappear become “Prime Time.”  During the transition Sanders obviously was developing his Muppet-self as Dr. Teeth.

Average Joe Home Networking - Intro to Hardware

This is going to be a multi-part series with the amount of installments being a number divisible by 0 and starting and ending wherever I damn well feel like.  In other words, just read, learn, and shut it.  The scope of these documents is simple everyday usage of a home network.  I am not going to delve into subnetting (it’s been awhile anyway) or talk of Cisco devices but merely basic networks and how to set them up to be very functional and do some troubleshooting.  Starting with picking out the hardware…

Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack: Instantly Combusts $10!

This is going to be short and to the point. I’ve downloaded and played through a few rounds in each of the new maps in the downloadable Combustible Map Pack released today for Gears of War 2 and am prepared to make a recommendation.
Don’t dowload them. At least not yet. Here’s why.

5 DVD Gift Ideas for Sci-Fi Geeks

I was not going to do a “buy this” article this year and it may even be very very late but I thought I’d make a minimal list of some great gift ideas.

1. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and Star Wars Trilogy - $35/piece
At $35 a piece these are a pretty good buy.  Anyone who is a real Star Wars fan is going to want all of the movies even if they don’t like them.

For the uber geek throw in the book set too at another $30
