Gran Torino: Nothing Hmong With This Movie
I have two Festivus grievances to air about Gran Torino: first, what the hell is 78 year old Clint Eastwood doing back in front of the cameras again? Second, this whole “Oscar Shuffle” with release dates really pisses me off. That’s this yearly tradition for studios to “premier” a release that’s honestly intended for January of the following year sometime in December of the year before to officially make it qualify for Oscar consideration, which is exactly what they ‘ve done with Gran Torino opening it on January 9th, but kind of releasing it on December 18th, too.
Enough of my complaining and let’s cut to the chase: can Clint Eastwood’s tired old ass still carry a film these days?

Cris Carter Needs to STFU
What the hell is the matter with Cris Carter? Someone might want to make sure he hasn’t fallen off the wagon. Hey now, hey now, I’m all for a guy getting rehibilitated from drugs and/or alcohol but Carter’s latest comments make me think he’s lost it.
First, I’m surprised it has taken this long for something this bad to get around. Carter, apparently, started off his after Christmas Monday in a fine mood and was a guest on the Mike and Mike show. Mike and Mike, as they always do with their guests, let Carter speak pretty freely and he definitely took advantage of that. The comment of the day was that if he had one bullet he’d shoot TO. Let me say that again. Cris Carter, one of the all time great WR’s and a guy who once got his ass cut from the Eagles for off the field character issues, declared that if he had one bullet it’d be going in Terrell Owens.

New Watchmen Trailer, Legal Status and Delays
With Watchmen in serious jeopardy of a release delay everything about it starts to look a little better. Below is the kick-ass Japanese trailer for the movie which is 100% better than the US/English Second Trailer that’s been around for a while. The Japanese version has almost completely different footage from the English version, and ultimately is much more geek-inspiring.
So what are the possible implications of the legal mess that’s brewing and the future of this film?

6 NFL Coaches that should be Fired (that won’t be)
Let me say I was all over this guy’s nut sack like a barnacle on a cruise liner last year. The Bills, last year, managed to be extremely competitive while scraping together a team with random people from Ottawa. 2008 was a totally different world for Jauron. Buffalo did lose it’s starting QB and went back to, as a colleague puts it, JP LOSERman but they didn’t take advantage of their running game the way a good team should have. I also have not seen a team that never appeared to have any type of “edge” like these guys were missing and that really cost them some games. In addition to the above, Jauron took the blame for a horribly bad play call that definitely cost the Bills a game. Jauron will stay because the owner is too much of a pussy to make a change right now. JauronaGO!

NFL Divisional Playoff Picks; Updated Printable Bracket!
Round 1 is long gone along with any respect I had for myself to accurately pick the outcome of a football game. 1-4 is how I finished my first round though in my own defense I think most of the “experts” went 2-2. On the flip side of that, I am usually ripping on how terrible most of those “experts” are so this is quite the little conundrum. Who cares, I’m still the frackin’ man! Here comes the NFL Divisional Playoffs in Round 2.
Don’t forget to get your updated printable bracket at the end of this column!

2008 Movies — Best, Worst, Weirdest. 15 Deviant Knowledge Movie Awards
ScuzzBuster’s 2008 Movie Notes…
I refuse to do a Top Ten Films list. First, I haven’t seen enough movies, only a few dozen of the films that were released this year to be quite honest. Second, when you start micromanaging things to that level it is so subjective as to be meaningless. So, I’ve come up with my Top 15 Notable Film Awards for 2008 that even the most hardcore movie whores may have overlooked, forgotten about, not seen, or just plain not have considered at the time. If you get anything out of this set of awards, hopefully it will be a more thorough understanding and appreciation of film. Hahaha…just kidding!

NFL Playoffs RD 1, Day 2 Wrap Up - Ravens beat Dolphins; Eagles Soar On
Round 1 of the NFL playoffs concluded today with results that most people were expecting. The games were at least worth watching as the playoffs almost always are. Could Chad “only 7 INT’s on the season” Pennington get it done against the Ravens ridiculously good defense and could the NFL’s leading rusher, Adrian Peterson, move the ball against the smug Eagles D.
Ravens - 27 Dolphins - 9
It was the Dolphins to get the first turnover off a LeRon McClain fumble which looked like nothing more than a love tap. Unfortunately for the Dolphins they tried to love tap it in from the goal line and got stuffed resulting in a field goal. Baltimore matched that field goal with one of their own and then proceeded to take the game over.

NFL Playoffs RD1, Day 1 Wrap-Up; Cardinals top Falcons, Colts fall to Chargers
Day 1 of the NFL Playoffs, Wars, Finals, and Road to the Big Show has ended in spectacular fashion. One thing that was not a surprised are which players stepped up to win the game for their respective team. Phillip Rivers, Darren Sproles, Kurt Warner, and Larry Fitzgerald all pushed their teams over the top along with great play from the Chargers and Cardinals Defenses. I, however, am starting off this playoff season 0-2 on my picks but I can’t say that I am totally surprised.

Doctor Who - Matt Smith Chosen to Succeed David Tennant on the BBC Staple
Long time Doctor Who fans heads are probably exploding right now with the news that Matt Smith has been chosen to succeed David Tennant in the title role of the 45 year old program. At 26 years old he’s 3 years younger than Peter Davison when he took the role in 1981, a year before Matt Smith was born.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 2008’s best saved for last? Maybe.
I begrudgingly admit that if The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is not the best film I’ve seen this year, it’s pretty close. But this does make me sad. The film is so overwhelmingly right most of the time that I find my list of problems with it growing as I ponder it.
Let’s take a look at what’s right with Benjamin Button first, then let me nitpick it to death for you.
