BSG Prequel “Caprica”: Want to See it in April? Shell Out $20 or Wait Until 2010.
With only half dozen or so hours of Battlestar Galactica left, many of us are already starting to feel the withdrawl pains coming on. Realizing that the old expression “All good things must come to an end” is something the television executives will not accept, there of course is the small consolation that Sci-fi has picked up Caprica, the Galactica prequel that chronicles the Adama family 50 years before the Cylon obliteration of the 12 colonies of Kobol. We have to wait until 2010 to see Caprica. Or so we thought.
The two hour pilot episode of Caprica will be available on DVD on April 21st, months before Sci-fi airs it as part of the launch the weekly series. Caprica chronicles the story of the Adama and Graystone families and the part they play in the birth of the Cylons. Details are still somewhat sketchy, but early buzz on the pilot, which has been complete for some time now, is good enough to have made the Sci-Fi Channel commit to a season of the show.
For those that simply cannot wait, it is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
The only thing keeping me from pressing the “pre-order” button right now is the conspicuous-by-its-absence listing of availability on Blu-ray. Certainly there will be a Blu-ray release along with it or you may just have to wait until the season one box set of Caprica releases sometime in late 2010 or 2011. No word yet on when in 2010 the actual pilot will air and the series will begin. For those Galactica fans that have been living in a vacuum for the past 6 months, below is the Caprica trailer.
