Monday Mania - TO, A-Roid, Warner, Boldin and More!

The world of sports was lit on fire over the weekend by the amazing competition that is the Pro Bowl. Ha! Yeah, right! Actually, the sports world cannot shut up about A-Roid, er, A-Rod. I will be getting to my take on Alex Rodriguez and the rest of that “steroid thing” along with other topics. Lots of stuff to hit on including Todd Haley, TO, Pacman, Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin, and more. You gotta keep reading to put the “man” in Mania on this weeks edition of Monday Mania here on Deviant Knowledge.

Cowboys
Pacman has officially been released from the team. Look, that bit of news alone is simply NOT that interesting so let’s make it more interesting. DallasCowboys.com is reporting that Dallas will not be totally losing out due to contract stipulations that were made in the trade with Tennessee. Dallas traded their 2008 fourth-round pick and their 2009 sixth-round pick in order to acquire Pacman. Due to the suspension Dallas will be getting back their 2009 sixth-round pick and also getting the Titans 2009 fifth-round pick. Honestly, I’d say Dallas didn’t make out too bad overall in the trade with this end result.

Lots of rumors were made about Dan Reeves going to Dallas as a consultant but that deal fell through. I’m not buying the reported reasoning one bit though. Jerry Jones and Reeves, who are long time friends and have worked together before, are saying they couldn’t agree on working hours in the contract. Are you frakking serious?! This is Dan Reeves we are talking about here. Jones wanted a stipulation in the contract which explicitedly stated how many hours a week Reeves would be working. I’m not sure why in the Hell Jones would have been asking Reeves to join the team in the desired capacity if he wanted him to walk around with a punch card. C’mon, Jerry, tell us the truth!

TO to be released? I’m still 70-30 on this siding on the “stays with the team” side. Stephen Jones, the Cowboys VP and Jerry Jones son, reportedly would only yield a “no-comment” when asked about TO’s possibly release. I could give a shit less about that to be honest but I’m much more curious about a guy like Roy Williams (Safety) coming out and saying that TO is a distraction to the team. Roy Williams and TO joked around and were as friendly as anyone on HBO’s Hard Knocks and even the sidelines. If Roy Williams is making these statements I think there IS something more going on in that locker room and I’m not talking about Soap On a Rope.

Chiefs
And so it begins! The Chiefs, under the direction of Scott Pioli, are going to become a total power house. There is no doubt in my mind at this point. Kansas City has hired Todd Haley to be their new head coach. Bill Parcells’ branch of coaching could be the largest in the NFL with Haley taking the spot. Haley coached with Parcells in 1997 with the Jets and then again with the Cowboys in 2004-2006. Also, let’s not forget that Scott Pioli is Parcells’ son-in-law. Haley’s father, Dick Haley, is a legendary scout and personnel director who was responsible for drafting and building the 1970’s Steelers team of past legend. I will be looking for the Chiefs to immediately get rid of Larry Johnson and go after Matt Cassell or another QB.

Cardinals
Well, I certainly cannot mention the Chiefs without talking about the Cardinals. For those that do not know, Todd Haley was Arizona’s offensive co-ordinator this past season and he’s going to be missed, a lot. Kurt Warner has now said that if the Chiefs keep Anquan Boldin around his decision on whether to stay or retire (basically) will be a lot easier. Arizona is in a bit of a crunch with their cap numbers to resign Boldin but with Larry Fitzgerald offering to restructure to keep his partner in crime around they need to find a way. Matt Leinart is not going to come off the bench and be anywhere near the QB that Warner is so if takes Boldin to keep Warner they need to get it done. Also, Karlos Dansby is looking for a new, long-term, contact this off-season. Lots going on for the Cards but they just need to suck it up and open that wallet.

Pro Bowl
The AFC took on the NFC in the annual Pro Bowl and not many people cared again. This year the NFC took the W home with Larry Fitzgerald proving he is absolutely unstoppable. Roger Goodell is saying that this is the last year for the game in Hawaii and that they are also going to be changing the game to be the week before the Super Bowl. I guess this could be interesting but why take the game out of Hawaii. It’s been a huge money maker for the small island and they’ve been fantastic hosts for years. Goodell might end up with mud on his face for this one.

Roster Moves and More
Big Ben is now claiming he has/had (little confusing) fractured ribs during the Super Bowl. The team has come out and said, basically, they disagree. I really don’t care either way but the glorification of Roethlisberger is irritating to say the least. Peter King pretty much wrote an entire suck off editorial on him today and it’s just unneccsarry. At this point we have the team saying he was fine and Roethlisberger saying otherwise. DONT GIVE A SHIT. He played good in the Super Bowl and that should be all the news reported on him and that is so last week.

Luke McCown has been re-signed by the Buccaneers. ESPN.com is reporting this as the possible QB of the future. What future is that, exactly? Oh, that’s right, the future where the Bucs are absolutley terrible because McCown is not very good. Great, go Bucs!

The New York Giants released Sam Madison, Sammy Knight and Reuben Droughns. All three of these guys were basically backups and will probably wash back up somewhere and possibly even land back with the Giants. New York also resigned David Carr which is a very good move in case Manning goes down. In more Giants news, Plaxico Burress is still a frakking moron. It’s being reported that he didn’t pay a home inspector at first and then wrote him a bad check. The check amount? $700. Burress is nothing more than a clown who happened to be a football player awhile ago at this point.

Non-Football News AKA Alex Rodriguez takes steroids and Baseball Sucks Even More
Alex Rodriguez has come out and stated he took steroids during his 2001, 2002, and 2003 seasons. This is all following a report that his name was on a list of 104 players that tested positive during the 2003 season. A lot of people care that A-Rod tested positive because of how dominant he has been and I even heard one nut job present the argument that he was supposed to be the Luke Skywalker of the home run record to Barry Bonds Darth Vader role. Who gives a shit about A-Rod. That is not the biggest part of this story! Yes, that’s right, screw A-Rod.

There are two big things to this story. One, this was supposed to be a completely anonymous test. Baseball banned ‘roids in 1991 but didn’t bother to implement a penalty for it. Yeah, it was bullshit window dressing and it’s all coming back to haunt them now and I’m loving every second of it. This test was given as a blind test that was only supposed to serve the purpose of finding out how wide spread the problem of steroids was in the league and let me remind you this was just ONE test. There is a huge problem here.  Again,  this was presented as an anonymous test six years ago and now at least one name has been disclosed. What a giant breach of trust and I’m sure someone’s tail is going to be sued.  Why were these tests not destroyed?

Now, the largest part of this story is that 104 players were caught in one test. This is like catching two and a half teams cheating at once! Let’s say that again. This ONE test caught enough players to fill out two and a half rosters. If you were to just use game day roster size (25) then that number is like 4 FULL teams getting caught doing steroids. That is outrageous and baseball’s lack of balls on steroids is too. Just think, there are only 30 teams in baseball and with one test 4 full game day rosters could have been banned. If this is not enough to say that the game is completely tainted, the numbers are foul, and a HELL of a lot of players did ‘roids then I don’t know what is. I’m still having a really hard time grasping that number. The worst part is that it was only one test. There were more tests and I wouldn’t be surprised if 25% to 50% of the league might have been caught at some point. As it stands, the 104 number is about 11.54%. That is a HUGE number.

Another, and final, thought on this is how many are still doing them? HGH is undetectable by the tests that are currently allowed in baseball and there is a huge crowd of doctors saying that the blood tests are even inaccurate. I’m not saying that the NFL, NHL, or anyone else is clean but they have been cracking down on players for much longer and harder. At this point any one of those 104 players can just come out and say, “Yeah, I did steroids. Eat my ass, baseball.” The best thing to do as a fan would be to stop going to the games and complain as loud as possible. Nothing will change as long as the teams are still making money. Oh wait, yeah, nothing will change.
