LOST: 316. “We’re not going to Guam, are we?”

I have to admit that I spent the majority of my life buying into a lot of BS. Whatever the paranormal flavor of the week was I was usually right up front to buy the book or watch the special on the so called “Learning” or “Discovery” Channels. In recent years, I’ve found much comfort in the real world, though as I’ve discovered the wonderful world of critical thinking. This in some ways is hurting my ability to view Lost through objective eyes at times. I can stretch pretty far to buy into the whole paranormal arc of Lost, but ultimately, sometimes it just stretches me just a bit too far, and that’s when it crosses the line from Sci-fi and into some of the crazier magic elements.

Friday the 13th: Jason’s Back; Major Kira Gets Beheaded; Reconsider that Dock Side Swim.

Just when you thought the Friday the 13th films may have started to require having some sort of attention span, Michael Bay has seen fit to involve himself in resurrecting the dormant franchise. Apart from a more polished project, though, director Marcus Nispel’s work is pretty faithful to the standard slasher film style. If you’re a fan of this twisted genre, you may recall that Nispel directed the vastly disappointing Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake about 5 years ago. I may only have have disliked that particular remake personally, though, because I hold the original Chainsaw as the definitive film in the genre. Granted, he didn’t have as high a standard to an original to hold to when remaking Friday.

Heroes - Building 26: Stop That Wedding! Why?

I’m slightly pleased to announce that I did not hate this week’s episode of Heroes, Building 26. We’re still in ugly territory, but this episode had generally less suckage than about 80% of what we’ve seen so far this season. I know that I come across as a “hater,” but honestly I’m not. In this case, I call ‘em like I see ‘em. And the way I see it, if this series was a race horse, it would have been shot and sent to the glue factory about 4 episodes into this season.

Monday Mania - Feb 16th, 2009 - Favre, Garcia, Taylor, Peppers, Morgan and More!

Most of the NFL is prepping for things like the combine while the media side of it is trying to make soap opera’s out of any type of story that gets to them.  I’ll skip trying to make a soap opera out of stuff and just get right down to the nitty gritty of where I think some players are going to end up like Garcia and Peppers and there is a picture of a super hot chick in this column as well.  Yeah, go ahead and click the read more just for that!

Friday the 13th: Surprise! The Black Guy Doesn’t Die First

Okay, I admit it, I’ve seen every Friday the 13th movie. Yes, even the God-awful entries like Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, and the shameless cash-in, Freddy Vs. Jason. Seen ‘em all. Guess I have a soft spot for movies about large men mutely chopping their way through a clot of teenagers. I probably need help. So it was with a mix of curiosity, hope, and dread that I sat down to watch the reboot of the Friday the 13th series.

Battlestar Galactica: No Exit - Who the Frak is Daniel?

For those newcomers that have not watched Battlestar Galactica for the last 4 years but have decided to hop in for the last 6 episodes at least you got some of the original opening narrative from the credits. You also got to join the program at the exact precise moment when the show went totally batshit crazy.

BSG Prequel “Caprica”: Want to See it in April? Shell Out $20 or Wait Until 2010.

With only half dozen or so hours of Battlestar Galactica left, many of us are already starting to feel the withdrawl pains coming on. Realizing that the old expression “All good things must come to an end” is something the television executives will not accept, there of course is the small consolation that Sci-fi has picked up Caprica, the Galactica prequel that chronicles the Adama family 50 years before the Cylon obliteration of the 12 colonies of Kobol. We have to wait until 2010 to see Caprica. Or so we thought.

The Guild: Comedic Web Series for Recovering Guilders and Active Addicts

I have recently started playing World of Warcraft which can and will be another column but it turned my head to some videos I have ignored for far too long; The Guild! If I get into a game or anything else and really start to enjoy it I find myself seeking out as much as I can in related material. It just so happens that The Guild was one of the featured listings on the Xbox Live Video Marketplace or I probably would have missed it. Maybe non-gamers or even non-MMORPGer’s might not really care for some of The Guild but I think it warrants a look.

LOST: This Place is Death. Charlotte Bites it.

While I’m generally enjoying the hell out of Lost this season up to and including this week’s episode This Place is Death, my cynical nature is starting to pick apart all of the things that seem like they could go awry with this show the rest of the year. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not making any past judgment, but understand that I’m a Lost latecomer. I literally watched 4 years of the show in a very short period of time last year to get into this mode. Unfortunately, I kind of started to build my Lost fanaticism during the period where I was really excited about how great the first season of Heroes had been, and that show is a live example of how a show can go down the water closet in very short order.

Heroes: Trust and Blood…Ramblings of a Constipated TV Critic about Microwaves and Cheerleaders

WARNING: THIS WEEK’S DEVIANTKNOWLEDGE.COM HEROES WRAP UP MAKES REFERENCES TO BOWEL MOVEMENTS THAT ARE NON-GRAPHIC IN NATURE, BUT MAY STILL BE DISTURBING TO SOME READERS.
I would characterize Heroes: Fugitives so far as demonstrating about the level of scripting prowess I would expect from a high school or college amateur film maker. The show is working on kind of a general concept level with lots of ideas and actions but not much substance. Again, I‘m in the position with Monday night’s episode Trust and Blood where it just kind of sits there on the screen. In 60 minutes we go from point A to point B to point C, but again very little character development or drama is happening in between beyond a cautiously intriguing storyline developing around Sylar and the newly introduced Microwave Boy character.
