The Guild: Comedic Web Series for Recovering Guilders and Active Addicts
I have recently started playing World of Warcraft which can and will be another column but it turned my head to some videos I have ignored for far too long; The Guild! If I get into a game or anything else and really start to enjoy it I find myself seeking out as much as I can in related material. It just so happens that The Guild was one of the featured listings on the Xbox Live Video Marketplace or I probably would have missed it. Maybe non-gamers or even non-MMORPGer’s might not really care for some of The Guild but I think it warrants a look.
I think most people when they first get into a game like World of Warcraft start to think “Is all this time I put into this game really normal? What else do these people do, really, in life?” Season 1 introduces all the characters, as in game and real life, and it’s easy to see the potential. One character is frequently seen cooking while at the computer, another becomes the worst parent in the world, and a couple intertwine mostly due to excessive use of in game winky faces. Most “Guildses” watching will find at least one thing to laugh about in relation to themselves and that’s golden.
Season 2 improved the show quite a bit and my guess is they recieved more funding with the introduction of HD downloads and some longer episodes. The Guild continues mixing real life “things” with online gaming life and makes it funny. Hilarity ensues when there is 4 hours *gasp* of server downtime and the Guildses just don’t know what to do! Again, most people will relate with the slight awkwardness that is presented with online gamers meeting others in “the real life” if they’ve been through it themselves.
The Guild will be a series that I continue to watch and keep an eye on. This web-series has serious potential to run for quite awhile. MMORPG’s, social websites, and online “life” in general is huge and continues to get more popular and accepted which is really what The Guild is about. It’s about the relationships we form in this online world and how they come into our “real” life or “The Physical Realm.”
Catch the The Guild online at www.watchtheguild.com or through Xbox Live Video Marketplace.
