This article is going to be a little shorter than usual and will have a follow up probably Friday to get ready for the draft this weekend. That’s right, it’s taken forever but the draft will be this weekend. Today’s article, however, will be pointing out the Buc’s new QB, a couple (more) idiots that play in the NFL, and a new contract for James Harrison. Shall we?

Buc’s Snag Leftwich
lwichIt has taken forever but someone has finally gone out and grabbed Byron Leftwich. I can’t really understand what took so long given Leftwich’s solid track record in the NFL. Leftwich was ousted in Jacksonville for David Garrard and worked as a backup in Pittsburgh last year. In 2008 Leftwich went 21 of 36 with a 104.0 QB Rating. At this point he has a lifetime rating of 80 and is close to a 60% passer. This is a good pickup for the Buc’s who are filled with the likes of Brian Griese, Luke McCown, and Josh Johnson. Yeah, my money is going on Leftwich to become the new starter in Tampa.

Two Idiots from Same Team
whitsmallEveryone loves to talk about how the Cowboys are taking in all these “bad” players and yet Pacman Jones was the only one really doing anything stupid on the team. Jones was promptly cut along with some other “questionable” players that were in Dallas. To me, the NFL has one team that stands low on the moral totem poll which is Cinncinnati. However, those boys up in Buffalo are catching up. Marshawn Lynch was in deep doo doo last year when he was caught lying to the Po-Po about his vehicle being stolen. This year he was caught with drugs in his car when Police smelled Marijuana coming from Lynch and his boys while sitting in a parking lot. Commisioner Goodell has leveed a 3 game suspension on Lynch which is a pretty big blow to Buffalo no matter what “questionable” players they have acquired from Dallas. Probably soon joining Lynch on the pine will be their stand out safety Donte Whitner. Whitner was recently tazered after Police were attempting to control a mob at a *SURPRISE* night club. Whitner attempted to push his way through and run which resulted in the zap. He has since said he regrets the whole thing but who wouldn’t. These kids need some serious help in growing up and how to use their money. Buffalo will probably be without two of their better players to start the season because they decided to act like idiots.

James Harrison Locked
What can a Super Bowl MVP type performance get you in the NFL? Six-years $51.75 million if you’re a linebacker with the Steelers apparently. I still think Harrison needs to be slammed with a 50K fine for what he did in the Super Bowl but that is a different note. Harrison now becomes the highest paid linebacker in the NFL and his $20 million guaranteed money is second on the Steelers roster only to Big Ben who is at $36 million guaranteed. If Harrison finishes out the contract he will be 38 at the end of it but it’s more likely he will retire before getting to that mark. Good move for the Steelers and their future.

Non-NFL Note of the Week - Golf!
cabreraI pay attention to golf a little more each year as I age it seems. This past weekend’s master event was advertised as all Mickelson and Woods but failed to really garner any of that. Instead, it was dominated early by Chad Campbell who nearly set a course record on the first day with his 65. Mickelson and Woods made very little noise on the first three days only to both have very good 4th rounds with scores of 67 for Phil and 68 for Woods landing them at -9 and -8, respectively. All of that aside it was slow and steady that won the race with Angel Cabrera topping the list at -12. Cabrera shot rounds of 68, 68, 69, and 71 and won out over Chad Campbell to get his Master’s win. Congrats go out to the 39 year old from Argentina.
