Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead. The Second Special of the 2009 “Gap” Year is Stunningly Average

potdIt was a big weekend for British science fiction as two cult programs made returns. While I’ll be covering the return of Red Dwarf after it’s decade long absence later this week, Doctor Who returned for the second of 4 specials to air in this “layoff” year after series 4. This also takes us one step closer to the close of David Tennant’s era as the lead actor in the longest running science fiction program in television history.

Monday Mania - April 13th, 2009 - Donte Whitner, Bucs new QB, Marshawn Lynch, James Harrison

This article is going to be a little shorter than usual and will have a follow up probably Friday to get ready for the draft this weekend. That’s right, it’s taken forever but the draft will be this weekend. Today’s article, however, will be pointing out the Buc’s new QB, a couple (more) idiots that play in the NFL, and a new contract for James Harrison. Shall we?

Windows Home Server Part 1 - Who/What/Why

hservercloudWith many people having several computers and other devices that share media a server could be a great and logical addition being overlooked.  Ohc’mon now, I can just hear the pulpit breeding with “Yeah, if you’re a computer nerd” and the chants of “That sounds expensive.”  Let’s not over look the usual question of “Why? Why do I need or want that?”  To be honest, these are mostly fair questions and until recently it hasn’t been easy or cheap.  Now, it is both and very powerful at that.

The Who
This article is for anyone savvy enough to install an operating system and has a basic understanding of computer storage and networking.  If you have added a hard disk to your computer, formatted it, and shared a folder you are well within the scope of this.  Even if you haven’t done these things but are interested in how a server for your home might make media more accessible and safer, keep reading.  There are companies making pre-built boxes at reasonable prices that would be a perfect fit.  The second best thing about Windows Home Server is how simple it is to use (the first is the easy expansion technique).

OBSERVE AND REPORT Observed and Enjoyed

observesheetOne of the few small pleasures in life is heading into a film with absolutely no expectations and being unexpectedly blown away. Observe and Report happily turns out to be one of those comedies that hits all the right notes, pulls no punches and forces itself on you with raw, raunchy, over the top offensiveness. It’s all too rare to get a really down and dirty good comedy that’s not afraid to consistently cross the line to get its laughs in.

Lost: Dead is Dead & Heroes: Turn and Face the Stranger. Two Reviews Shortchanged in One Brief Article!

lostlog4Since my life this past week has plunged into the twilight world of an intriguing bargain bin Nintendo Wii game, playing the XBOX Live Arcade download of Robotron 2084 until my eyes have started bleeding and pounding down some time with our Nintendo DSi I have had not much time to reflect on this week’s episodes of Heroes and Lost. heroeslog4This is actually a tragedy since between both of these programs provided some decent entertainment this week. If you watch both programs, hear me rant for a few paragraphs. If you watch one or the other you can skip the parts you don’t care about.

The Nintendo DSi: The Response to the Turf War Apple Started with the IPod Touch?

dsiopenThe question I’ve been asking myself for the last few months has been “does the world need another incarnation of the Nintendo DS?” Don’t get me wrong, I love the DS, it was a revolutionary little handheld when it was released and the second gen Nintendo DS Lite was a vast design improvement, but was it really a smart move for Nintendo to continue to push out “last gen” gaming technology to the market just for the sake of a few more bells and whistles? It seems like Nintendo has been itching to blast back at Apple for trying to muscle into the handheld gaming market. Here’s a brief set of first impressions on this new $170.00 monstrosity.

Another Monday another column.  Huge turn around this week in football with two teams that have made some really poor decisions the last couple of years making really good ones.  Though, for each of the teams making good decisions there are always others doing stupid things.  That’s just how the cookie crumbles as the blue furry monster used to say.  Of course, I have to get in my take onPlaxico Burress’s fall from grace.  What can I say, I just can’t understand how some people can be so darn stupid.

Lost: Whatever Happened, Happened…or Did It?

anothers5lostlogoI’m going to cry lack of imagination on Lost this week. Not only did they feel the need to explain away something that really didn’t need explaining, they made the show inherently less interesting by doing so. This really starts at the conclusion of the previous episode when our favorite Iraqi castaway gunned down the puberty-primed Ben Linus.

Cutler to Chicago! Denver gets a Farm!

Whelp, it’s over and just beginning at the same time!  Jay Cutler will be landing in Chicago with Kyle Orton and two first round picks on the way to Denver.  Who has won in this?  Well, I’m not really sure but I’m going to attempt to break it down in this column.  Also, more opinion on why I think McDaniels and the Bronco’s are “to blame” even though I think this is all been orchestrated from the beginning for the most part.  Conspiracy theory?  No, not exactly.

It was all a Scheme…
With all of the showmanship put up by the new, young, Bronco’s coach I really think all of his outcries about Cutler were just smoke and mirrors.  Yes, that’s right, I don’t think McDaniels EVER wanted anything to do with Cutler.   I know I am rehashing but humor me.
