V 2010: Leapin’ Lizards! The First Look is Promising!

newvBack in January we reported that ABC had greenlit a remake of the classic 1980s mini-series V. You can read my thoughts on the original work here V - Classic 80s Sci-fi Gets the Go Ahead for a Remake. I also expressed some reservations that the green light was on a remake rather than continuation or closure of the original story. I may have been hasty in that judgment after getting our first peek. ABC television has released some of the first trailers and promotional materials for the series and it’s not what I expected.

vcastBack in my original article, you can read about the fuss creator Kenneth Johnson had made about the original mini-series versus what followed. Considering what could have happened had Johnson gotten his way and continued part of the original mini-series while ignoring over half of it, perhaps the best solution is just starting from scratch.

Now that we finally have the first promos from the new series, I have to admit, it’s looking much tastier than I imagined. It appears that they are going straight for the darker more serious tone rather than the action-oriented more swashbuckling approach the 80s version took.

v-series-mitchellWhile it’s still hard to part ways with Mike Donavan, Juliet Parish and Ham Tyler and Diana (Marc Singer, Faye Grant, Michael Ironside and Jane Badler) everything about these new promos looks stunning and I suddenly find myself looking very much forward to this. Looks like we are sacrificing Juliet Parish for Juliet from Lost (Elizabeth Mitchell). Looks like this new incarnation is skipping the mini-series stage and heading straight for a pilot for a weekly series. You can take your first peeks here:
