One Young Girl. One Powerful Lesson.

A few weeks ago, a 13-year-old girl was dragged into a stadium in Kismayo, Somalia and buried up to her neck in the dirt in front of 1000 spectators.
As she was buried, she was uttering “Don’t Kill Me, Don’t Kill me.”
Frightened and pleading for her life, after she was buried, over 50 men approached her and threw stones at her head until she was dead.
What was her crime?

Reflections on the New President

Throughout the evening, the election coverage would occasionally cut back between Phoenix, Arizona and Grant Park in Chicago where crowds gathered for both candidates.

After the call was finally made late Tuesday night and McCain gave his concession speech the camera panned over his disappointed crowd. My wife made the comment “look at that crowd.” That was the extent of her comment, but I knew exactly what she was referring to. I responded ”It’s white as a sheet.”

I Hate This Guy

I was really hoping to sit down today to try to watch 30 consecutive minutes of television without having to see this guy, but it appears that this is becoming increasingly unlikely these days. Is there anyone left in North America that doesn’t hate Billy Mays?

Maybe “hate” is a strong word. I’m sure had I never seen any of these ads that if I met the guy at a business lunch or in line at the grocery store that some glorious friendship may have ensued. But as it stands today, I’m sick to death of this guy coming into my living room, squinting, raising his voice and trying to sell me a bunch of crap.

Arrest in Virtual Homicide Case

I was looking forward to a quiet evening at home tonight. We ordered a pizza and tuned our Digital Cable Box to the news channel that’s going to give us the election coverage with the slant I like. I had no intention of writing a single word.
Stupid me, I fired up the laptop to flip through the various electoral polls for the day but was ambushed with this Associate Press Headline:

“Online divorcee jailed after killing virtual hubby”

Sonuvabitch. No way I can let that go without comment.

Campaign 2008: McCain Falters, Obama Surges. Why?

As of today, all the national media polls have Obama with double digit leads. One of the reasons I haven’t written too much about politics is because the entire process inspires way too much passion the last 8 years or so and getting worked up about it generally pisses me off. I won’t make any bones about this, I was a raised in a staunchly Republican household and just as in my Catholic upbringing, the beliefs were indoctrinated from an early age. It’s for another time to argue why I’m no longer a conservative. At that point you can start pointing out why you think I’m a bleeding heart liberal or whatever the hell, but I will offer as objective a view as I can as to why I think the polls are swinging heavily Obama’s way, and they aren’t all reasons I’m seeing the pundits mention in the media. Personally, I think they’re missing some of the fairly obvious, but perhaps less politically correct observations so far.

Paul Newman Lives On at Your Local Grocery Store

Paul Newman’s body of work needs no introduction. For the 30ish and under 30 generation you probably saw more of him at the salad dressing isle. In 1982, Newman started up “Newman’s Own” food products which has endured as one of the most recognizable brands of salad dressings.

Why America Fails.

65 MPG.

65 MPG.

I know what you are are thinking.  How can someone who is so proud of his country like myself make a topic like that?

It is very simple.  while I am very proud of my country and my heritage in the country, there are times when I am a little perplexed about our leaders and our current culture.
