Star Trek: The Quick and Sleazy Gift Guide for Overhyped Trekkies, Trekkers and Geeks

shipOne of the great truisms of fandom of any entertainment property is that when the fuse gets lit on fanaticism after a long lull it spurs lapsed fans into child like spending sprees. Star Trek is no different and with the new film garnering rave reviews and big box office bucks it’s prime time for classic Trek fans to get parted with their hard earned cash. Here’s a cross section of some of the big budget and small budget goodies that are hanging out there for you.

The Nintendo DSi: The Response to the Turf War Apple Started with the IPod Touch?

dsiopenThe question I’ve been asking myself for the last few months has been “does the world need another incarnation of the Nintendo DS?” Don’t get me wrong, I love the DS, it was a revolutionary little handheld when it was released and the second gen Nintendo DS Lite was a vast design improvement, but was it really a smart move for Nintendo to continue to push out “last gen” gaming technology to the market just for the sake of a few more bells and whistles? It seems like Nintendo has been itching to blast back at Apple for trying to muscle into the handheld gaming market. Here’s a brief set of first impressions on this new $170.00 monstrosity.

Why Wii Fail: Two Years Later, the Nintendo Wii’s Shortcomings Become More Glaring with Age

Over two years into the life span of the hot selling Nintendo Wii console it’s time to take a step back and evaluate some of the console’s most frustrating shortcomings and how this cash cow of a machine could have been so much more. Personally, I had my Wii in hand the day it came out and was instantly thrilled. Nowadays, I still look at the cute little white box lovingly, but find myself continuously baffled by the shortsightedness of Nintendo in execution and curse it on a regular basis for a number of reasons.

The Guild: Comedic Web Series for Recovering Guilders and Active Addicts

I have recently started playing World of Warcraft which can and will be another column but it turned my head to some videos I have ignored for far too long; The Guild! If I get into a game or anything else and really start to enjoy it I find myself seeking out as much as I can in related material. It just so happens that The Guild was one of the featured listings on the Xbox Live Video Marketplace or I probably would have missed it. Maybe non-gamers or even non-MMORPGer’s might not really care for some of The Guild but I think it warrants a look.

Review: Star Wars the Force Unleashed

Duh duh… du du du daaaa duhhhh du du du daaaa duhhhhh du du du daaaa. Ahem, sorry about that. It was just my excitement for all things Star Wars trying to build up this game at least a little bit. The Force Unleashed (360) can now be picked up for about $30 used which wouldn’t be a bad buy if it wasn’t so damn mind numbing. Oh, snap, maybe I just blew the rest of the review! Well, I think not since this game actually starts off well then collapses nearly as much as the Clone Wars movie.

I will open this up by saying I have not yet finished this game. I don’t have 8+ hours a day to play games, though I’ll take the job if anyone is hiring, so there will be times that a game just isn’t worth it. There is not a plan to make this a habit and I will, rightfully, update the review if I finish the game and have a sudden change of heart but I am about 2/3 of the way done and can’t really take much more.

And that’s gonna cost you sixty bucks.

Fable II: Knothole Island Review

Fable II was, as many expected, not a very long game when following the storyline so any type of expansion is an improvement. The game also left players mixed up with having certain parts of outfits but not the rest and that just did not make sense. Well, now it’s time for it to make perfect sense and for Lionhead to make some more cent$. Behold, the Fable II: Knothole Island expansion is upon us as it’s shadow is cast upon our merciful credit cards!

Be the Ball, Danny…For Only 200 Microsoft Points!

For whatever reason, I decided that I needed a good old fashioned golf game for my XBOX 360. I was harkening back to the good old days of playing Links on my MAC back in the 90s. Golf video games are important to me, a man who has played real golf once in his life and shot a respectable 85…on the front 9. After about a week of playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour I was somewhat shocked by what Microsoft was offering me as a player through XBOX live.
