DragonCon 2009: Costumes and General Weirdness

superflash2One of the most phenomenal things about any Con is the vast amount of weirdness that comes out of the woodwork. Seemingly normal people use the occasion to costume themselves as their favorite fictional–or in some cases non-fictional– characters. In my years of going to cons I’ve noticed a distinct turn in this trend. As with this picture of the Flash and Superman, this supports my life long research into whether ANY human being actually looks good in tights.

DK Book of the Month Pick: Rhymes With Duck

rhymeswithduckThis month’s Deviant Knowledge Book of the Month pick is the educational classic Rhymes with Duck. Few children’s books have moved me to tears before I’ve even gotten past the cover but this one is certainly an attention getter.
Picked up at one of our fine local “Dollar” Stores, I can’t help but wonder how the concept behind the writing and publishing this book ever got past the “humorous suggestion” phase.

T-Owned

Turn out the lights, the party’s over. The party that was TO being in Dallas, that is. As of this morning the Cowboys have cut Terrell Owens and are moving on with their lives. Ownership and coaches must have felt that TO had become too much of a distraction to deal with. The neat part about all this is both sides, Jerry Jones and TO, got T-Owned in the end. It’s a good bit of a laughing matter, really. What does this mean for the Cowboys as they move forward? Where might Owens end up? Read on for the q0wnage.

The Guild: Comedic Web Series for Recovering Guilders and Active Addicts

I have recently started playing World of Warcraft which can and will be another column but it turned my head to some videos I have ignored for far too long; The Guild! If I get into a game or anything else and really start to enjoy it I find myself seeking out as much as I can in related material. It just so happens that The Guild was one of the featured listings on the Xbox Live Video Marketplace or I probably would have missed it. Maybe non-gamers or even non-MMORPGer’s might not really care for some of The Guild but I think it warrants a look.

NFL Network Secretly Hosted by Muppets!

As I sat and watched the NFL Network this past Sunday it was like I was seeing things for the very first time. I was in awe of who was actually hosting the shows. The broadcasters are not always the most interesting bunch but I suddenly realized they were vastly more intriguing than any other sports network. They were all Muppets!!! I have proof…

Deion Sanders –> Dr. Teeth
This one is plainly obvious. “Neon Deion” did not just slowly disappear become “Prime Time.”  During the transition Sanders obviously was developing his Muppet-self as Dr. Teeth.

BART SIMPSON MUST DIE!

A few weeks ago I took my four-year old boy out to Burger King so he could get some Mac and Cheese and a Simpsons Toy. WORST SIMPSONS TOY EVER. You have to see and hear it to believe it.

I Hate This Guy

I was really hoping to sit down today to try to watch 30 consecutive minutes of television without having to see this guy, but it appears that this is becoming increasingly unlikely these days. Is there anyone left in North America that doesn’t hate Billy Mays?

Maybe “hate” is a strong word. I’m sure had I never seen any of these ads that if I met the guy at a business lunch or in line at the grocery store that some glorious friendship may have ensued. But as it stands today, I’m sick to death of this guy coming into my living room, squinting, raising his voice and trying to sell me a bunch of crap.

Classic Gaming: KABOOM! The Quest for 10,000 Points

One of my fondest video game memories is the Activision classic Kaboom! for the Atari 2600. Back in the days when the simple appeal of repetitive, score driven gaming could hold your interest for hours on end this was the top shelf for a pre-teen like myself.
