Five Reasons Watchmen Will Rock/Suck, Part III
Okay, so I’ve listed reasons why the upcoming Watchmen adaptation could either rock or suck. But what do I think? What’s my prediction? On which side of the rock/suck line will the movie fall? Will it be a worthy rendering or a colossal stinkburger? So, with the understanding that I haven’t seen the film, have no insider knowledge or access to any special information, I gaze into the future and speculate with four little words:

Friday the 13th: Surprise! The Black Guy Doesn’t Die First
Okay, I admit it, I’ve seen every Friday the 13th movie. Yes, even the God-awful entries like Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, and the shameless cash-in, Freddy Vs. Jason. Seen ‘em all. Guess I have a soft spot for movies about large men mutely chopping their way through a clot of teenagers. I probably need help. So it was with a mix of curiosity, hope, and dread that I sat down to watch the reboot of the Friday the 13th series.

Killzone 2: Pay to Play
After lots of hype and a questionable trailer a few years back at E3, Killzone 2 for the PS3 is just about to hit store shelves. Does it live up to the hype? Are the graphics everything they promised? Is the gameplay as exciting as they claim? You only have to play the demo to find out.
And that’s gonna cost you sixty bucks.

It’s the Super Bowl! Run!!
I’m not a sports guy. Not even a little. Don’t play ‘em, don’t watch ‘em, have no idea who the vast majority of the players are, none of the coaches, and am often confused about from what city a particular team hails. (It’s the Albuquerque Yankees, right?) So maybe this is just me, but I don’t see what the big damn deal is about the Super Bowl.

Who Pays the Watchmen?
Turns out we’ll be watching the Watchmen this March after all. Seems Warners and Fox have settled their dispute for an undisclosed amount of cash. Warners keeps distribution rights and Fox will receive an upfront monetary settlement and a portion of the box office. Here’s the official statement:
“Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture Watchmen in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Bros. acted in good faith in defending against those claims Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film’s March 6 release in theatres.”
So Fox gets a wad of money, Warners gets some extra publicity, the fans get their movie on time. Could it be for once everybody wins?

Who Watches the Watchmen? Might be Nobody.
Despite Scuzzbuster’s earlier assertion that you shouldn’t off yourself before 2009, one of his reasons may no longer be enough to keep you breathing. According the The New York Times, it seems the judge in the Fox/Warner Bros. Watchmen rights case has made a preliminary ruling, prior to the scheduled January trial date, that Twentieth Century Fox does indeed own a copyright interest in the film.

Just Buy It
I love downloadable content, think it’s a great idea. For just a few bucks, you can get additional levels and goodies for your games, extending their life and your enjoyment. Even better, you can snag some pretty cool, original games that often times are more fun than their more expensive disc-based counterparts. Or buy classic games you enjoyed (or missed) in your gaming youth and give them another go. What I don’t like is gambling, and that is far too often what buying DLC turns out to be.
