Best Picture Jumps From 5 to 10 Nominees in 2010: My Oscar Grouch and a James Cameron Rant
We’re a short time away from the Oscar announcements the first week of February and it’s time to take stock of the sideshow that is the Academy Awards. Like last year, we’ll be posting a 2009 wrap up of notable films (I don’t do “10 Best Lists” or anything, see our 2008 Notable Film Awards). Expect my “notable” list in the next few days–I have one 2009 release that’s waiting for a viewing that I would be remiss to not consider before posting my rather irrelevant thoughts.
In any case, most of you that care are already probably aware of the surprising decision from the Academy to expand the list of nominees in the Best Picture category from five to ten in the Oscar race. Is this really a good thing?

Who Watches the Watchmen? Might be Nobody.
Despite Scuzzbuster’s earlier assertion that you shouldn’t off yourself before 2009, one of his reasons may no longer be enough to keep you breathing. 5 DVDs for non-Sci-Fi Geeks
Since the first article was so popular I thought I’d do a follow up before Christmas on what DVD’s to get for the “non-Sci-Fi Geek.”
1. Batman - Dark Knight - $17 for basic, $23 for SE, $26 for Blu-Ray, $50 for Limited Edition Blu-Ray
Was there really a question of what would go here? The best movie of the year by 10 galaxies (needed some sci-fi reference) and it was for all the right reasons. Action, drama, great effects, excellent acting, and things going boom! What else do you need?

5 DVD Gift Ideas for Sci-Fi Geeks
I was not going to do a “buy this” article this year and it may even be very very late but I thought I’d make a minimal list of some great gift ideas.
1. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and Star Wars Trilogy - $35/piece
At $35 a piece these are a pretty good buy. Anyone who is a real Star Wars fan is going to want all of the movies even if they don’t like them.

For the uber geek throw in the book set too at another $30
